Certified Functional Strength coaches Theresa Racicot & Mike Denton offer two great programs to get you in tune with your body and ready to make the most of your circus training!

  • "Bridging the Gap" - Return to Circus - This program is designed to help students who are returning from injury rehabilitation or physical therapy transition safely back into circus training.
  • Optimizing Movement - This program is designed to optimize movement patterns and to improve foundational strength to help you on your way to achieving your circus goals.

“Bridging the Gap” - Return To Circus

However it came to pass, you found yourself injured and then in physical therapy. You worked hard, and finally the moment arrived when your physical therapist said, “You can start training circus again. Just don’t go too crazy at first” - or something to that effect.

In many cases, because of insurance-based limitations and other factors, physical therapy can only take you so far in terms of recovery from an injury. More often than not, “graduating from physical therapy” does not mean “ready to return to circus.” It means “ready to get ready to return to circus”.

This program is designed to get you ready to return to circus!

    Circus requires:
  • Eccentric strength (ability to maintain control of a joint while muscles are lengthening under tension)
  • Power (ability to generate force rapidly)
  • Effective force transmission and absorption (closely related to power and eccentric strength)
  • Anaerobic endurance (the ability to work harder for longer with minimal rest)
  • Full, active and controlled joint ranges of motion (and strong, healthy joints)
    We will:
  • ☆ Coordinate with your physical therapist and/or other members of your sports medicine care team as necessary to gain an understanding of your injury and rehabilitation status.
  • ☆ Take you through a full-body movement screen and assessment of your functional ranges of motion.
  • ☆ Develop an individualized warm-up plan that will prime your body’s mobility and stability prior to each training session.
  • ☆ Assess your “readiness” based on our “return to circus” protocol which features circus-discipline- specific mobility, stability and strength benchmarks, and then design a strength and conditioning training plan to physically prepare your body for the rigors of circus training.
The package includes five one-hour sessions:
  • Four initial sessions:
          • Assessment
          • Movement Prep/Warm-up plan
          • One-on- one coaching session—workout A
          • One-on- one coaching session—workout B
  • Follow-up session after 4 weeks to assess progress and determine next steps.
    Pricing
  • $425 total package price ($85/hr)

Optimizing Movement for Performance Enhancement

Why “optimize movement”? What does “optimizing movement” mean?

One of the amazing things about your body is its remarkable ability to adapt. Circus arts ask your body to do some pretty amazing things and quite often, your body will choose the most efficient way to do them.

However, efficient doesn’t always mean optimal.

If certain muscles are not strong enough or you are lacking sufficient joint mobility or stability, your body will compensate in some way in order to perform a given skill or movement.

When your body develops a less-than- optimal compensatory pattern, it often means that your joints, muscles, ligaments or tendons end up being stressed more than necessary. Over time, this can result in injury.

Injuries mean time away from circus.

This program is designed to optimize how your body moves and to improve your foundation of strength to help you on your way to achieving your circus goals.

    We will:
  • ☆ Discuss your personal health and training history and your circus goals with you.
  • ☆ Take you through a full-body movement screen and assessment of your functional ranges of motion to see if the right muscles are working (and the wrong ones aren’t) and if the right joints are moving (and the right ones are stable) when they need to be.
  • ☆ Develop an individualized warm-up plan that will prime your body’s mobility and stability prior to each training session.
  • ☆ Assess your current level of functional mobility and strength-balance and then design a strength and condition training plan to optimize how your body moves and to help you to achieve your circus goals.
